Meeting minutes April 16, 2009

The meeting was called to order by Bob at 5:52 pm.

New Business    

Election of Officers

Robert KG4NVX and Brenda KI4EYW, were asking for someone to volunteer for the President and Secretary positions. Charles made a motion that we keep the current officers. The group was called to a vote and the decision was to keep the same officers.

The Club congratulated John Wiseman for the successful completion of his review.

The storm spotter class held at the the county 911 center was a success and was attended by several of our club members.

Ed   KI4DVM,  reported an EOC Advanced Storm Spotter Class in Nashville (Belmont) at one o'clock on May 14th.

Bill Wiseman, reported that Jim Young (W8FBI) is at Hillside Hospital in Intensive care with Congestive Heart Failure.

Bill Hand, KI4WNH, Public Relation Officer For TN Military Affiliate Radio System  (MARS) brought along a PowerPoint presentation and brochures about the MARS system. Thanks Bill for the very well designed and informative presentation. 

Bill  Hand also discussed a simulated earthquake (drill) covering areas in the New Madrid Fault Zone which includes Giles County. This drill will be held from Thursday April 30th through Saturday May 2nd.

Bob spoke with the State Director for MARS Chris Bindrim on Thursday April 16th and offered our participation in the exercise if needed.

Bill hand also mention an upcoming drill in Ardmore later in the fall, the scenario being a train crash emergency. We have also offered to participate as needed in this exercise.

Charlie  K4CRS, reported meeting a new Ham operator in the county, Timothy Pirkle N5KI. He is an Extra class Volunteer Examiner and a proficient CW operator and a close neighbor to Charles. 

Charles asked if there were any other Extra Class hams in the club who would be willing to volunteer as examiners.

Charles asked if anyone is interested in working Field Day (End of June) he had some land that we could use. We will discuss this at our next meeting.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Judy at 6:15 and seconded by Jane.
